On 19 March, the King gave his opening speech to his initially English Parliament by which he spoke of his desire to protected peace, but only by "occupation of your accurate religion". He also spoke of the Christian union and reiterated his desire to stay clear of spiritual persecution. For the Catholics, the King's speech created it obvious they
